What's the difference between the free and paid versions?

The free version is fully featured — it has every verb, every tense and the audio pronunciations. The only difference is adverts: the Pro (paid) version is the same app with the adverts removed. Pro is a separate download rather than an in-app purchase — look for the app name followed by "Pro" (or "(Plus)" / "(Más)" / "(Mais)" if your App Store is in another language), or the icon with a "+".

I purchased the app but I still see ads

The paid version of the app is a separate app, not an in-app purchase. To get the ad-free version, you need to download the Pro version from the App Store or Google Play. Look for an app with a "+" symbol in the icon, or search for the app name followed by "Pro" (or "(Plus)" / "(Más)" / "(Mais)" if your App Store is in another language). If you have already downloaded the Pro app but still see ads, make sure you are opening the Pro app (the one with the "+") and not the free app — both can be installed at the same time.

I bought the Pro app. Do I have to pay again on my other devices?

No. Your purchase is linked to your store account, so you can install the Pro app on your other devices on the same platform at no extra cost:

• iPhone & iPad: sign in with the same Apple ID and download the Pro app again — the App Store won't charge you twice.
• Android: sign in with the same Google account and reinstall from Google Play.

Apple and Google purchases are separate, though: buying on iOS doesn't unlock the Android app, and vice versa.

I can't hear audio in the Android version

1. On your Android device, install the Google Text to Speech app.
2. Open Settings → Language & input → Text-to-speech output → Preferred engine. Pick Google TTS.
3. Try listening to audio again in the app.

Do I need an internet connection to use the app?

No. All the verbs and conjugations are stored inside the app and work completely offline, so you can study on a plane or abroad without using data. You only need a connection to install the app and download updates. (Audio uses your device's built-in text-to-speech, which also works offline once the voice is installed.)

I searched for a conjugated form but the verb didn't come up

By default, search matches each verb's infinitive and its translations, which keeps searches fast. If you also want to find a verb by a conjugated form rather than the infinitive, turn on search by conjugation on the settings page.

Can I change the order of the verb list?

By default, the list is sorted in the app's own language (for example, Spanish in the Spanish app). If you'd prefer it sorted in your own language instead, you can change this on the settings page.

Can I copy or email the conjugations?

Yes. Each verb's conjugation can be copied to the clipboard or sent by email straight from the app, so you can paste a full conjugation table into your notes, a document or a message.

What can I change in Settings?

More than most people expect — many things that look missing or wrong turn out to be a setting. To open Settings, tap the ☰ menu at the top left of the verb list. On iPhone and iPad choose Options (the page that opens is titled Settings); on Android choose Settings. On iPhone and iPad the options are grouped under headings; Android lists the same options in one long page. The main ones:

• Search — whether searches also look in your own language, whether they match the start of a word or anywhere in it, how results are sorted, and whether conjugated forms are searched too. See search options, search by conjugation and sort order.
• Conjugations — which tenses are shown, whether the tense names are in your language or the language you're learning, and the translation language. You can also hide the previous/next verb arrows. Some apps add options of their own: Second Person Plural (Spanish), ß or ss (German), European or Brazilian Portuguese and old pronouns (Portuguese) and Combine identical rows (German and Spanish).
• Audio — speed, Verb Only and the accent, plus tips for a better voice.
• Recent — turn the list of recently viewed verbs off, clear it or change its order.
• Export — Export and Import Favourites (see moving your favourites) and, on iPhone and iPad, Sync Favourites with iCloud.
• Data Collection and Personalise Ads — your privacy choices: anonymous usage statistics and, in the free app, ad personalisation.
• Night Mode (Android only) — use a dark theme.

Practice has one option of its own, Hide translations, which is on the Practice screen rather than in Settings.

Can I hide the tenses I don't study?

Yes. In Settings, choose Tenses (on Android, Select Tenses). Every tense is listed under its mood with a tick beside it; untick the ones you don't want and they disappear from the conjugation screen of every verb. On iPhone and iPad, tap a tense to remove its tick, and tap it again to bring it back.

Nothing is deleted — if a tense you expected is missing from a verb, this list is the first place to look.

Can I change the language of the tense names?

Yes — it's the Labels setting. It has two choices: your own language (shown by its name, for example English) or the language of the app (for example Spanish in the Spanish app). It changes the names of the tenses and moods on the conjugation screen, so "Present" becomes "Presente" and back again.

This only affects the tense names. To change the language of the verb meanings, see the translation language.

How do I change the language of the translations?

In Settings, choose Translations (under Conjugations on iPhone and iPad). Automatic follows your device's language; otherwise pick one of 19 languages, from Arabic to Turkish, including English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Verb meanings switch straight away, and so do example-sentence translations wherever a translation exists in that language.

Search has a matching switch: the first option under Search (it reads "Include English" or similar, naming your translation language) decides whether searches also look in the translations. See search options.

Can I search from the middle of a word, or search in my own language?

Yes. The Search settings control how matching works:

• Include English (it names your translation language) — on by default. Searches look in the verb's translations as well as the verb itself, so typing eat finds comer in the Spanish app. Turn it off to search only the app's own language.
• Start / Wildcard (iPhone and iPad) — Start, the default, finds verbs that begin with what you type (and, for verbs of several words such as sich verstecken, any word in them). Wildcard finds what you type anywhere in the verb, so cer finds hacer and conocer. On Android, search always matches anywhere in the verb, so there is no such option.
• Include Conjugations — off by default; see searching for a conjugated form.
• Sort results — see changing the order of the list.

Can I slow the audio down, or hear just the verb without the pronoun?

Yes — the Audio settings have three options:

• Speed (on Android, Audio Speed) — 100% (the default), 75%, 50% or 25%. Slower speech makes the endings easier to hear.
• Verb Only — off by default. When it's on, a form is spoken as just the verb (hablo) instead of pronoun and verb (yo hablo).
• Audio Version — in the English (UK or USA), Portuguese (Brazil or Portugal) and Spanish (Spain or Mexico) apps, the accent used. The other apps have a single voice.

If the voice sounds robotic or the accent is wrong: audio uses your device's built-in text-to-speech. On iPhone and iPad the app uses the best voice installed for the language, so download a better one in the Settings app under Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices (look for Enhanced or Premium voices); a tip appears under Audio while only the basic voice is installed. On Android, use Download Voice Data in the app's Settings, and if you hear nothing at all, see the Android audio question.

Can I turn off the Recent list, clear it or change its order?

Yes — it's all under Recent in Settings. The Recent tab keeps the last 50 verbs you've opened, and you can:

• turn it off — verbs stop being recorded. On iPhone and iPad the Recent tab then disappears; on Android, turning it off also empties the list;
• clear it with Clear Recent (on Android, Clear);
• change the order with Sort By — most recently viewed first (Date) or alphabetical (Verb).

Can I see ß written as ss in the German app?

Yes. In the German app, Use ß (Eszett) in Settings (under Conjugations) offers two choices: ß, the default, and SS. Choose SS and every verb, conjugation and example sentence shows ss instead of ß — heißen becomes heissen — and search follows suit. It's the spelling used in Switzerland, and handy if your keyboard has no ß.

How do I switch between European and Brazilian Portuguese, or hide vós?

Both options are in the Portuguese app's Settings, under Conjugations:

• Language Version — European (the default) or Brazilian. It switches the conjugation tables between the two varieties, which differ in some forms and spellings (for example abaixámos against abaixamos) and in how the imperative is written.
• Exclude Old Pronouns — off by default. Turn it on to hide the vós rows, a form that is rarely used in everyday modern Portuguese.

The accent of the audio has its own setting, Audio Version (Brazil or Portugal); see the audio question.

Some conjugation rows are identical. Can I combine them?

Yes. The German and Spanish apps have a Combine identical rows setting under Conjugations. It's off by default. When it's on, rows that read the same in a tense are shown as one: wir / sie / Sie in German, and ellos / ellas / ustedes in Spanish. Rows whose forms differ are never merged.

In the Spanish app the option appears only while Second Person Plural is set to Ustedes, since that's the only time ustedes is shown alongside ellos / ellas.

Can I hide the translations on the Practice cards?

Yes. On the Practice screen (the Practice tab on iPhone and iPad; Practice in the ☰ menu on Android), switch on Hide translations. Cards then show only the language you're learning — no verb meaning, no translated pronoun hint and no example-sentence translation — so you're tested without the English crutch. It's off by default.

Can I hide the previous/next arrows beside the verb?

Yes. The ‹ › arrows beside the verb's name on the conjugation screen step to the previous or next verb in the list you opened it from — the full verb list, your Favourites, Recent or, on iPhone and iPad, your search results — so you don't have to go back to the list. They dim at either end of the list.

To hide them, turn off Previous/next verb arrows under Conjugations in Settings (on Android the setting is Previous/next verb buttons, with Yes and No). They're shown by default. On iPhone and iPad you can also swipe left or right across the conjugations to move to the next or previous verb; hiding the arrows doesn't turn the swipe off. On Android, verbs opened from search results have no arrows.

A verb is missing — can I add it myself?

There's no manual "add your own verb" option, but the verb lists are curated and expanded regularly. If a verb you need is missing, send it to us through the in-app "describe your issue" form or by email and we'll usually add it in a later update. Please include the verb's infinitive and which language app you're using.

I can't find möchten in the German app

möchten isn't a separate verb — it's the Konjunktiv II (subjunctive) form of mögen, so you'll find it there rather than as an entry of its own. Open mögen and look under the subjunctive Präteritum: ich möchte, du möchtest, er/sie/es möchte, wir möchten, ihr möchtet, sie möchten.

It's a natural thing to wonder about, because most textbooks introduce möchten alongside the modal verbs as though it stood alone. The same holds for other forms — something that looks like a verb in its own right often belongs to another verb's conjugation. If a form you search for doesn't appear, turn on search by conjugation.

vosotros (or ustedes) is missing from the Spanish app

Nothing has gone missing — this is the Second Person Plural setting. The Spanish app shows only one of the two second-person plural forms, vosotros (used in Spain) or ustedes (used in Latin America), and hides the other so every conjugation table matches the Spanish you're learning. If vosotros has disappeared, the setting is on ustedes; if it's ustedes you can't see, the setting is on vosotros.

To switch, open the settings page and pick the form you want under Second Person Plural. The change applies to every verb straight away.

A conjugation, tense or translation looks wrong. How do I report it?

Please tell us and we'll put it right — corrections ship in a later app update and appear automatically once you update. Report it through the in-app "describe your issue" form or by email, and include:

• the verb and the language app;
• for a wrong or missing conjugation, the specific tense or form (for example the imperative, or the nosotros form);
• for a translation, the language it appears in and your suggested wording.

I'm still seeing a bug or a missing verb that should be fixed

First, check that you're on the latest version of the app. New verbs and corrections ship inside app updates rather than syncing from a server, so updating refreshes the built-in verb database and clears up many reported issues. Your favourites and history are kept when you update.

Can I move my favourites to another device, or to the Pro app?

Yes — how you do it depends on where they're going:

• Between your iPhone and iPad: nothing to do. As long as both devices use the same Apple ID and it's the same app, your favourites sync automatically over iCloud.
• From the free app to the Pro app: these are separate apps and don't share favourites, so export from one and import into the other.
• Between iOS and Android, in either direction: use the same export and import.

To move them, open the settings page and choose Export Favourites, then send yourself the file (by email, or through a cloud drive). On the other device, open the settings page, choose Import Favourites and select that file.

Your purchase itself doesn't move between Apple and Google — see the question above.
